Session 7
LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION (Part 2)
Does It Matter?
At the end of it all, you might want to ask, “Does it really matter whether 1) there is a God or not? 2) Whether this world was created by chance and random evolutionary accident or whether it was created by the infinite personal Creator God as the Bible claims? The answer is absolutely and categorically Yes. Why?
Because if God does not exist, then everything can be permitted-whether right or wrong. There is no “reason to respect any life; to observe any kind of morality; there’s no reason to refrain from killing or injuring anyone; or to seek any “purpose” in life. Added to that, if every one of us is merely here by some evolutionary accident, (concussion atoms) then Life has no significance or meaning or purpose since you and I are random product of chance!
On the other hand, because God exist and he alone created the heavens and the earth, Life has significance, meaning and purpose. Even the atheist Bertrand Russell concedes, “Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.”
There is a powerful lyric concerning who God is.
You are not a God
Created by human hands
You are not a God
Dependent on any mortal man
You are not a God
In need of anything we can give
By Your plan, that's just the way it is
You are God alone
From before time began
You were on Your throne
You are God alone
And right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
You are God alone
You're the only God
Whose power none can contend
You're the only God
Whose name and praise will never end
You're the only God
Who's worthy of everything we can give
You are God
And that's just the way it is
Unchangeable
Unshakable
Unstoppable
That's what You are (Phillips, Craig and Dean)
Why Do We Need God?
You and I are not only social beings but also spiritual beings. As a spiritual being with spiritual needs, only God can meet those needs; fill a hole in your heart.
As the Great French Physicist and Mathematician Blaise Pascal (1623-1663 AD) said: “In each and every heart there is a God-Shaped vacuum. Nothing can satisfy that vacuum except God”.
The Prominent North African Theologian Augustine (354-430 AD) remarked: “Our Hearts are restless until they rest in You.”
The Outstanding Italian Philosopher Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274 AD) said: “There is within every soul a thirst for happiness and meaning.”
Indeed, only God and God alone can meet those needs. Only God can take the mess in our lives and turn it into a message; a scar into star; a test into a testimony, a trial into a triumph, a victim into a victory.” Would you? Won’t you?
Great News for You
I’ve got great and exciting news. This infinite- personal creator God (aka God of the Bible; Intelligent Designer) created the heavens and the earth. God wants you to get to know you personally. Are you willing to get to know him personally? When you get to know this creator God, and those of you who already know him, life takes on a new meaning and significance. Only God can take the mess in our lives and turn it into a message; a scar into star; a test into a testimony, a trial into a triumph, a victim into a victory.” Would you? Won’t you?
Conclusion
The famous physicist Albert Einstein was once travelling on a train when the conductor came down the carriage to check the tickets. When he came to Einstein the great man couldn’t find his ticket. He tried every pocket, his briefcase, the seat, the floor, but there was no sign of it. The conductor said, “Dr Einstein, I know who you are. I’m sure you bought your ticket. Don’t worry about it.” Then he moved on, but as he was about to enter the next carriage, he looked back and saw Einstein crawling about the floor on his hands and knees. He rushed back in dismay and said again, “Please don’t worry, Dr Einstein. It’s not a problem I know who you are.” Einstein looked at him and said, “Young man, like you, I know who I am. What I don’t know is where I’m going”. Do you know where you are going? To know that, you need to know the creator God.
Just say this simple prayer
A Simple Pray
Dear God,
I believe in you as the Creator of Heavens and earth.
Thank You for sending your son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins.
I admit I am a sinner.
I open the door of my life and receive Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.
Thank You God for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life.
From today onwards, take control of my life.
Help me live a happy, meaningful and fulfilled life. Amen.
